As a global player in the biotech sector, Kemin develops and produces human and animal food ingredients.
The human population continues to grow rapidly worldwide, resources become limited and the need for solutions concerning issues, such as food insecurity, increases. Kemin strives to improve the quality of life by delivering high-quality specialty ingredients for feed and food industries, as well as health, nutrition, textiles and commercial horticulture markets.
In the past, Kemins reporting consisted of numerous, stand-alone PDF files of lab results. Kemin wanted a user-friendly web portal that allows customers to access reports, data insights and a customer tailored dashboard.
This information should be made available at all times and e.g. accessible on the road.
Primary goals of embedded Power BI into a web portal:
Multiple Power BI reports were created and embedded into the web portal after it was developed. By using a complex Row-Level-Security set up, customers can only access their own detailed lab results and still see aggregated market data.
Customers can log into a web portal and authenticate via an Azure B2C integration. Customer dashboards are presented via a Power BI integration. Row-Level-Security is performed on underlying data. Reports are automatically filtered based on the customer who has logged into the web portal.
Kemin wanted to allow customers to gain insights into data by adding a benchmark option. Customers needed access to their own detailed data but also aggregated data of the entire market. This added extra complexity, but with our expertise and a little creativity, we were able to come up with a solution.
Some reports also allow to compare historical results for client data as well as aggregated market data.
To make these reports more comprehensive for customers, we included an interpretation guide within each report to give meaning to specific values. By simply hovering over certain visuals, an interpretation guide pops up.
Kemin’s customers can analyze lab results on the fly and in more detail, benchmark their own data against aggregated market data and perform analysis on an ad-hoc basis. Reports can be accessed on mobile or tablet as well.Embedding Power BI reports into a customer portal makes it possible for customers to access their own data in one place, which allows Kemin to better interact with customers. Access can easily be managed or extended by adding more users to the portal. Customers can gain insight by using numerous available filters, compare historical results and benchmark own data against aggregated data. A Row-Level-Security setup and AD integration makes access maneagable & secure.
